Recently I purchased an Amazon Kindle Book Reader – and I have to tell you it is my favorite new toy. I have been voraciously reading once again due to my handy little machine. I downloaded classics, comedies, biographies, business books, romances and many of them for free due to the content being in the public domain.

One of my most recent reads was by Seth Godin, one of my favorite authors on business topics.

Poke the Box is a quick and easy read. I finished it in a couple of hours because I couldn’t put it down.

Godin’s self proclaimed manifesto is a kick in the rear to anyone, especially entrepreneurs on the value of taking action and getting started. And with getting started comes finishing or seeing something through. Even if the project doesn’t work, he believes there is value in starting and getting to an end point. There is value in TRY unlike our yodaism that many try to live by: Do or do not, there is no try.

I’ve even said that myself a time or two. Now, let me explain. Godin goes on to say, that starting and seeing something through even if you do no continue to pursue it is worth a lot. You have tried something new and trying these new ideas is what leads to innovation. Now, he’s not saying start and don’t finish because you get lazy or lost or whatever. But you don’t give up, you try the next thing or to make the previous better. Alexander Graham bell took years to create the first working phone but he had to start somewhere and complete on inventions before knowing if they would work.

Godin’s easy style of writing and memorable examples are motivating and a great reminder of why we’re entrepreneurs.

The book sells for about $8.00 and is something I think would make a great addition to any personal development library.
