I like to read and try to read as much as I can. I have been a rabid reader since I was a litle girl, devouring my books and always ready for more. I’ll admit, I wasn’t very athletic and books were an outlet for me. I still have writing a book on my Bucket List.
I read everything: Fiction, Non-Fiction, Business Books, Magazines, etc. The challenge comes with having enough time to read, especially while running a family and a couple businesses. Becoming more efficient with time is important.
I drive around town a lot. Between running the kids to school or waiting for them, going to appointments or running errands, I sit in the car plenty enough. About 18 months ago a friend of mine taught me a trick – get your books on Audio and pop them in the car when you’re driving. And if you’re frugal, like me, you can rent them from the Library.
I choose to only listen to business related books while in the car. By doing this I have been able to hear from some of our top authors and have gleaned some great takeaways while not taking up any “extra” time. I feel like I retain more because I am not trying to read in bed at the end of the day when I’m ready for sleep.
And after borrowing from the Library, I have even chosen to purchase a few of my favorites for my own bookshelves so I can refer back to them when needed. 😀
Sure, I do listen to talk radio or music while in the car – especially when I want a few minutes to clear my mind or I have the kids in the backseat. It is soothing since it isn’t an all the time occurrence.
Now, don’t forget that Library cards are usually free – so it saves you money when you borrow your books. My library lets me peruse and hold books online, then I just take the few minutes to run in and check them out. Now, of course, you can always buy books on audio form bookstores or online.
This is my tip for today, hopefully helping you be more efficient with your time, satisfied through new learnings all while keeping a few bucks in your wallets.
Have a terrific day!
Hi Vanessa,
we are learning through different channels, reading is one of them. Listening to audio content is also a powerful way of learning, especially when your conscious mind is focused on something else, for example car traffic and your subconscious mind is very open.
Thanks for sharing your insights.
Take care
Oliver
Thanks Oliver. Yes, we learn through different channels and we all learn differently. I appreciate your insight about the subconscious mind being receptive when other parts of your mind are occupied. Take care!
VaNessa,
This is great advice! I am constantly listening to some type of business, personal development or finance CD while I am driving and it certainly does add up over time. I can’t imagine how many hours I have listened to.
I go to Simply Audio Books and am able to pay $180 annually for all the CDs I can listen to, one at a time. I figured it saved me tons over buying them, but I like your idea of the library too.
Have a great Thanksgiving, VaNessa!!!
Karen
Hey Karen,
