I’ve been asked recently the same question by a number of different people. And while I don’t feel the need to explain myself or my actions I woke up this morning compelled to write this post. The short and seemingly simple question asked of me is:
How do you do it?
What the people are usually trying to understand is how I juggle all of the balls I have in the air, how I keep my positive attitude and how I make my life work. You see, from the outside, my life seems a bit….crazy.
And you know what? Sometimes it is. And sometimes I wonder how I do what I do myself. And sometimes I’m flat out tired. I mean, those who know me, know I get up between 4:30 and 5:00 to maximize quiet time in the morning and I go to bed around 10pm. Not a lot of sleep happening. (Don’t forget I love to nap!)
Those who know me, know I have a pretty scheduled and segmented day where I plan and schedule my calendar so the balls stay in the air. You also know I have help. I have a great nanny, a great VA (virtual assistant), a great local assistant and a fabulous husband who puts up with me and supports me in more ways that I ever thought possible. (And he hates when I write about him).
That is the HOW I do it. But the real question is:
Why do you do it?
My Answer: My Values. It comes down to my values.
I value Freedom and Flexibility. Period. I am doing what I want to do on a daily basis. My choices are my own. I CHOOSE to be busy most of the day making things happen for myself and helping other people as best I can. It jazzes me. It fires me up. It’s the best natural high in the world (aside from seeing and hugging my kids as much as I can).
This is my why: Freedom and Flexibility (2 powerful words to me)
You see, in my house, we value God, and believe nothing is more important than family and friends and being good people as much as possible. What comes around goes around. And by having Freedom and Flexibility in my life I have the opportunity to do so many things – be with my children on field-trips, do volunteer work, travel, nap, create new products and companies, help other people in their lives and business.
From these values and why comes my goal of create Multiple Streams of Income (MSI) to maintain that Freedom and Flexibility. My longterm goal is to be able to work from anywhere in the world as long as I have my computer and phone and to have a nice passive income stream so I work when I choose helping others. We tested this from Mexico a little while back and it works.
And no, this isn’t about oodles of money, this is about quality of life and the living that goes on everyday. Don’t get me wrong, money is nice and it allows us to do things like eat and have a roof over our head and some nice things but money like energy flows – it comes and goes. I’ve had it and lost, a number of times.
I know exactly what picture comes up for me in my mind when I think of Freedom and Flexibility and it keeps me going everyday.
What is your why? Have you fleshed it out? Have you REALLY thought about it? I’d love to hear your comments or thoughts below.
Be Your Best. Be Unstoppable.
Big Hugs!
Dear Vanessa,
LOVE IT! I feel like you could be talking about my household, which is, of course why we resonate! For me, living a value driven life is the only way to maintain joy, serenity and purpose.
This is a very powerful and moving post.
Lots of Love,
Mentor Mama
Wow VaNessa!
What an inspiring post! It is nice to know that other people have “crazy” lives too! I can relate to the sense of Freedom and Flexibility as well!
My WHY has changed a little over the years, more detailed and yet more broad! It is about FAMILY, first and foremost. I too live for the Freedom and Flexibility to be with who I want, do what I want when I want too!
Thank you for sharing your story!
Ciao,
