Ignite Your Light and Let It Shine

I’m a big fan of music. I LOVE Music and attending live concerts. Needless to say, it gets quite interesting when I have my 7 and 4 year old in the car. We listen to everything from Disney kids music to country, classic rock and pop culture mainstream music which my son is now getting into. When I am by myself in the car I usually listen to audio cds, but since the kids aren’t into this just yet – I get music time then.

Recently, while listening to one of the “teen” type music stations a song came on called Firework by Katy Perry. Now, I am not a Katy Perry fan per se. The first time I heard this song was on the TV show glee when Rachel performed it and it was good. With radio songs I specifically listen to lyrics because there are songs that are not appropriate for my children, even if they don’t “get it” yet when it comes to the words said. No need for subliminal messages 🙂

Anyway, I found the lyrics to Firework to be quite motivational in the chorus. Katy sings about going through bad stuff and picking yourself up to show the world what you’ve got and to let your light shine.

I felt this was inspirational and motivational and wanted to share it here. It is an upbeat song (give or take a few words here and there) and if you crank it up it just seems to put you in a good mood.

Since I love to crank up the tunes, one of my favorite things to do on the weekend or when I am by myself is to put on my U2 Joshua Tree CD and rock out while I’m cleaning the house brings me right back to being a teenager and many happy memories.

How does music play a role in your life? And let me know what you think of the song!

How refreshing VaNessa! Music does inspire and motivate me. (I love U2)
But when I really need to get up and move my body to music, I’ll play old disco. It is uplifting and I can dance to it for a break. One of my favorite motivational songs I can think of is “I’ll Survive” by Donna Summer. She is a wreck in an awful relationship, but has the strength to kick the guy out of her life, not knowing her next step, but knows she will survive. It reflects life to me. When we are “stuck” we don’t necessarily have to know what the next step is, but our motivation and self confidence gets us up and going. It is belief in yourself that gets you to the next step. Well….that’s my two cents.
    Blessings to you,
    Donna

Vanessa, thank you for making me take a closer look at this song. My daughter, age 9, loves Katy Perry songs, so I’ve started to like the catchy tunes, but there is actually a lot of substance to this song. When we truly start living out our talents, abilities, and personal missions, the world definitely becomes a brighter place.

    Hey Vanessa,

I agree the lyrics in that song are inspirational and motivating.
Music is a huge part of my life, it is always on in my house in almost every room… thanks to my whole house audio system 🙂 I was experimenting yesterday on listening to a different type of music while I work to see how it affected me either positively or negatively… it was pretty positive.
Do you listen to music while you write?

    Thanks for sharing!

Great song Vanessa – you are so right about how motivational the lyrics are. I confess when I’m working I prefer quiet so I don’t listen to music during the day usually. However when ever I’m doing things around the house, or on a walk, etc., I do enjoy cranking up the music. I’ll have to add this song to my iPod!

    Hi Vanessa,

Yes, like most people I love music. Our 4 year old is introducing us to new stuff every day. It keeps me young.

I find music lifts videos and can definitely change your mood. I am a bit stodgy though, and prefer Rock and Roll! Give me Bowie and the Stones.
