Let’s face it. As a new business no one knows who you are. That’s pretty common. But, what happens if you are not a new business, and no one still seems to know who you are? This isn’t a sign of a business that has had success, because if you were having success then customers would be knocking down your door, right? Brand building helps get people to know who you are. You don’t have to advertise with the most expensive television stations or buy huge billboards, but you do need personal branding for your business, especially if your business is you.
Why Personal Branding is Critical
There are tons of reasons why personal branding is important for your business, but let’s start with the top three:
• You need to announce that you are in the game.
• You need to separate yourself from the competition.
• You need to convey why your product or service is necessary.
These three reasons are critical to making a name for yourself, and to giving your business an identity that consumers can be familiar with. Having a product or service doesn’t make you money, but driving business to yourself and getting referrals is what will give you an endless stream of income. In order to make yourself known you must be branded. There’s been a lot of hype around this, but it’s true at the most basic fundamental business level. Your brand really is YOU!.
Branding for you and your business can come in several forms, but one of the first is a unique name. Keep it simple, and name your business in a way that it will reflect the true nature of what you are offering. You should also come up with a logo that is unique, and sets you apart from your competitors. You want a logo that is sharp, attracts attention, but isn’t too busy. You want the consumer to remember you!
Branding for you and your business can also come in the form of keeping your consumers up to date through email blasts, or even a personal blog to make you real to them. This is something that will give you an internet presence, and the more you stay in front of them, the more business you will get. Both email campaigns and blogs will remind them of the reasons why they choose to do business with you versus doing business with someone else.
Bottom line: don’t you want to have a unique edge in business that will draw customers to you, and let them know why they should choose you over someone else? Sure you do. Don’t you want to stand out before the competition does? Of course.
